Who do you blame for your mistakes?
Blame is a difficult topic in the workplace. While we don’t want to openly blame others for our shortcomings like missing a deadline, we often use dependencies as a shield of protection. “I was not able to deliver because Sales didn’t pull that report on time” – sounds familiar?
Blaming others can be a sign of a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset drives unhealthy competition and only values themselves based on their results. A growth mindset on the other side trusts their own capabilities to deal with challenges and drives personal knowledge gain. Who would you rather be?
Next time you hear yourself blaming others, re-frame your perspective by asking yourself:
What is my responsibility?
